Arbor Day

Today is Arbor Day. We all came to school in our green clothes. This afternoon we are going to help plant some trees and plants and to look after our gardens. This morning we measured the biggest Kauri tree in the world - Tane Mahuta.

We stood in a big circle and held hands to see how round his trunk is. We drew a big chalk circle around us, but it got washed off in the rain. We could all fit inside the circle with heaps of room left over!
We lay down in a big long line to see how tall he is. Wow! Liam was at the beginning with his feet right by the Wharenui, and Finn was at the end - way past the dental clinic! The big kids in Ti Kouka came to see what we were doing and were really surprised. Miss Allchurch took this photo from upstairs in the Totara block.
We sang a song about little trees in our garden. Mr Morris paid us a surprise visit to play his guitar while we sang. You can listen to it here. We think our song is awesome - have a listen and let us know what you think!
