We're experimenting with electronic K.I.T. notices and we'd love your feedback! Leave us a comment or email us with your thoughts.
One week to go! It’s been a super long term (11 weeks all up) and the children (and teachers) are all very tired. Stick with it – the holidays will be great and are only 8 sleeps away! We’ve got heaps to share this week, so we’ve kept it brief on paper – full details are on our blog (look under the ‘K.I.T. notice’ tab).
Resilience As the children have been getting more tired, we have noticed their coping mechanisms are being compromised. This week we started a focus on complimenting each other and developing resilience. We talked about resilient children being brave kids who keep going when things get tough. We practised keeping a smile on our face and using our words to ask for help. This worked really well! There are some things that you can do to help:
Reports were sent home today with those children who have been at school for 20 weeks (six months) or one year. All parents are invited to book an interview time to meet with us next Thursday afternoon or Friday. Full details of how to do this were provided in the last school newsletter. If you are not sure which teacher to book with, please come and check with us (or email) before making your appointment. Please note that due to interviews we ask that your child only attend school on Friday for their learning conversation. We will spend some time next week working with the children to prepare for this.
Letter of the week
Next week we will not be covering a new letter, but will spend some time consolidating the letters we have covered so far this year.
Wet weather
With the recent wet weather and frosty mornings (but sadly, not snow) the grounds have become quite muddy. Despite our requests to avoid playing in mud (perhaps because of them) a large number of children are very muddy after break times. We would appreciate if you could provide a change of clothes for your child if necessary. (These can be left in school bags until required).
Holiday readers
Next week we will be sending home a selection of reading books to be read over the holidays. These will cover a range of levels, and some may have been read by your child before.
Go noodle
This week we discovered an awesome (and free!) website to support fitness in our classroom. There are components of zumba for kids, brain gym and concentration exercises, as well as mindfulness activities and visualisation exercises. Feel free to sign up for a child or parent account at https://www.gonoodle.com/s/csands-1 (Tell them we sent you - apparently there's stickers in it for us!)
Seesaw
We've been using seesaw to publish our stories this last week. There are lots more ways that we can use this app to share your child's work, and children can use it easily themselves to share items of interest with you as well. We see this as a great way of strengthening home:school connections. If you would like to connect with your child's learning in this way, please follow this link: https://app.seesaw.me/s/953-937-180
Ukulele lessons
Following our tremendous success with our debut single 'In my garden' we have been invited to open for Ed Sheeran later in the year. (Not actually true, sorry). But it is true that Mr Morris the guitar teacher has invited us to take part in whole class ukulele lessons. This would involve your child being taught the ukulele during school time (most probably a Thursday or Friday afternoon) by us (with Mr Morris' guidance) - and on occasion Mr Morris as well (depending on interest). There would be a small cost associated with this - possibly $2 per lesson (so $20 for the term), plus you would need to supply a ukulele. If there is enough interest we will try to source funding to purchase a class set of ukuleles (but these would need to remain at school). Mr Morris also has a contact for cheaper ukuleles if you prefer to purchase your own. At this stage we are gathering expressions of interest. Please email us if you are interested in your child taking part.
Next week's programme
As next week is the last week of term, our programme will be slightly different! We will endeavour to send reading books home every day, but have a few things that need to be completed before the end of the term - please don't be alarmed if your child does not bring home a new reader every day! Also, if you have not yet sent a shoe box, these are needed by Monday.
Have an awesome weekend – we’ll see you next week, same time, same place (but just four teaching days to go! – Yay!

- if you know your child has trouble saying 'goodbye' in the morning, please don't drag this out. We know you have the very best intentions for your child, but please say 'goodbye' once and leave - if there is ever a time when your child does not settle we will contact you (and we haven't had to do this yet!)
- encourage your child to practice 'using your words' at home - let your child see when you are struggling with things, and how you approach and solve the problem.
- talk about 'resilience'. Encourage your child to talk about the times when they were resilient or brave during the day - focusing on their positive response to an 'issue' (not the issue itself!)
